1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter (at room temperature)
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preparation
Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a cake pan.
Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Cream butter and sugar: In another bowl, beat the butter with the sugar until creamy.
Add eggs and vanilla: Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix.
Combine dry and wet ingredients: Alternately add the dry ingredient mixture and the milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the surface. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and place it on a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve: Once cool, you can dust it with powdered sugar or top it with chocolate frosting.
